Thanemod
In the wake of BioWare’s forum closure, numerous fan-created “unofficial BSN” forum communities were erected. If you’re looking for a new place to discuss game strategies, favorite characters, modding, and more, we’ve provided a list of the most active new alternatives, along with some older, more established communities.
Thane Model Oem-tv-001
- Beamdog – Similar to Neverwinter Vault, but with an emphasis on Baldur’s Gate. Also hosts mods and contains sections for non-English languages.
- BSN Unofficial Forum – Emulates the old BSN format, with the intention to become its successor. This site has a large population and a section for French-speakers.
- Fextralife – Fextralife is the only site that scraped BioWare’s forums prior to closure. This means most of the old forums’ content is available for viewing on their site. The “Fan Creations” forum could not be re-hosted due to permissions issues associated with authors who hosted their mods in various threads. This has the additional effect of also excluding the former BSN Character forums, as they were inexplicably combined with Fan Creations when BSN closed. Short of this, all Mass Effect and Dragon Age forums (and the DA Keep) were ported. Fextralife is a larger site that also contains forums for Nioh, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne, along with a significant number of wikis containing valuable information on game strategy.
- ME3Explorer – The forum associated with the unofficial toolkit for the Mass Effect trilogy. The Mess Hall area can be used for off topic and game theory discussions.
- Neverwinter Vault– An active modding community for Neverwinter Nights. Includes project hosting, and many, if not all, NWN mods previously hosted on the old BSN.
- Nexusmods – Nexusmods is the largest mod-hosting site on the internet. There are a huge amount of discussions on their forums for a variety of games, modding-related and otherwise.
- RDF – This site is primarily focused on Dragon Age content, with an emphasis on discussions related to lore and role-play.
- Sorcerer’s Place – Contains a variety of gaming forums, including Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and Dragon Age.
- ThaneMOD– A support and development forum for mods by giftfish, the ThaneMOD forum has a “Shore Leave” section where folks are free to discuss any and all topics related to BioWare games.
- VSN – Originally created as a lifeboat for when BSN’s Off-Topic Lobby was shut down, this site attempts to replicate and foster much of the off topic discussion once found there.
