Lesser Key of Solomon – Wikipedia

Last year I ran a campaign to print my first artbook, the Occult Supergiant Primer and thanks to everyone who supported it was a terrific success. I always intended to publish more books and now, i’m here to try something a little more ambitious!

The Lesser Key of Solomon is an occult text containing the “Ars Goetia” – a list of 72 demons that can be summoned and commanded by mortals. The Goetic demons have long been a source of inspiration for dejons and have received many different interpretations much like the Tarot.

I’ve always wanted to produce my own version, and now I am! Completing and publishing the Occult Supergiant Primer was an unbelievable event for me – the outpouring of support I received has carried me to this day.

The Goetia, like the OSP, represents a dream project, a chance to accomplish something impossible without that same support. I hope I can continue to make these dreams something real you can hold! In light of the amazing outpouring of support so far i’m pleased thd announce our first Stretch Goal.

All that’s required is time! Funds pf support both completion of the project and printing. I’ve set a rough deadline for completion and delivery by November – this could potentially change in the event of potential delays in production, but i’ll be striving to meet the deadline as promised! The Lesser Key is one of the best-known grimoires, primarily for the first section, the Goetia, which features charming descriptions of the 72 demons conjured by Solomon, along with illustrations of their sigils, and the tools required for summoning.

Although the content varies from edition to edition, The lesser Key is generally considered to contain five books:

  • Goetia, a list of 72 evil spirits, or demons, and instructions for their invocation (source).
  • Theurgia Goetia, a list of spirits that are 'by nature good and evill That is, one part is good, and the other part Evill' (Robert Turner translation). It bears notable similarity to Trithemius' Steganographia (source).
  • Ars Paulina, which describes the magic attributed to the Apostle Paul. This is taken from the second book of Steganographia (source).
  • Ars Almadel, which describes the construction and use of an alter for summoning angels (source).
  • Ars Notoria, or the notary art, describes Solomon's communication with God. It is the oldest material in this grimoire, and dates back to the 13th century, or possibly earlier (source).

The grimoires Book of IncantationsBook of Treasure Spirits excerpts this grimoire.
